The Turso Cloud is the most affordable database platform in the market. And today, we are making it even more so. With the debut of the new Developer plan, developers can get started on Turso Cloud's free tier — which solidifies itself as the most generous in the market, and when ready, upgrade for only $4.99 per month.
Last year, responding to overwhelming popular demand, we announced our Hobby plan. The plan was targeted at individual developers, and it was a good option for developers who didn't want to build on the Free Tier, but for whom the Scaler plan (priced at $29/month) was too much.
At the cost of $9 a month, the Hobby plan was tremendously successful, but we knew we could do much better, and bring the price down even further. With the official release of our AWS regions, and thanks to our massive multi-tenant server, we are now able to replace the Hobby plan with the Developer plan, at a lower price of $4.99 per month (if paid yearly).
But it gets better – not only is the Developer plan cheaper than the Hobby plan, it also comes with more generous allowances too. Instead of 1 billion rows read per month, you get 2.5 billion.
For users of Embedded Replicas, the ability to replicate your Cloud database into a SQLite file into your physical device or server, the allowance goes from 3GB/month to 10GB/month. For those who use Turso’s ability to create many databases, such as prompt-to-code tools, the Developer plan now allows you to create 1,000 databases.
Because achieving this density is made possible by our massive multi-tenant server, which is only available on AWS, the Developer plan is also only available on AWS. Users who want to switch and are currently using our Fly.io regions have to first migrate their databases to one of our AWS regions.
We've listened to your feedback and made significant improvements to our Free plan, focused on delivering a more consistent and reliable experience. The most exciting change?
No more cold starts!
Your databases will now stay responsive at all times, regardless of how long they've been inactive — a feature previously only available on paid plans.
To balance this major upgrade while keeping our free tier sustainable, we've optimized the resource allocations: 500 million rows read per month, 10 million rows written per month, and 5GB of storage. These limits still make our free offering the most generous in the database market, providing ample resources for personal projects, MVPs, and learning environments. To give users the chance to prepare, the changes to the Free tier will go live on March 31st 2025.
For developers who find their projects growing beyond these generous limits, our new Developer plan at just $4.99/month offers a smooth upgrade path with 2.5 billion rows read per month – a perfect stepping stone before moving to our Scaler or Pro plans.
We've increased the monthly Embedded Syncs for plans:
For those new to Turso, here's a quick comparison to help you choose:

Developer Plan ($4.99/month if paid yearly)
Scaler Plan ($24.92/month if paid yearly)
Pro Plan ($416.58/month if paid yearly)
The introduction of the Developer plan comes at an exciting time for Turso Cloud.
With our recent move to AWS complete and the lifting of the beta label, we’re now offering improved reliability and consistent performance across all plans.
The Developer plan represents our commitment to providing an affordable database that scales with your needs — from personal projects to mission-critical applications.
One of our most requested features is very soon moving from private to public beta — offline writes.
Offline writes represent a significant leap forward for developers building local-first applications. With offline writes, your apps can now capture and store data even when disconnected from the internet – perfect for on-the-go scenarios where connectivity isn’t guaranteed.
Turso Cloud is the orchestration layer which syncs locally stored data to the cloud and across all of a user’s devices, with conflict resolution handled automatically, or with rules set by you.
We’ve been refining this feature with design partners in our private beta, and we’re very excited to share more of this in public soon to get your thoughts on how the feature develops further.
Ready to experience Turso Cloud? New users can sign up today and immediately benefit from our epic new infrastructure with no cold starts, at a new cost for developers.
