Turso introduces additional pricing flexibility with support for Overages

Starting today, builders can opt to enable Overages on either the free Scaler plan or the subscription Scaler plan, for additional flexibility to exceed normal plan limits on demand and as needed.

#Turso plans, revisited

Turso is available in three plans: the Starter plan, which is free, the Scaler plan, which costs $29 per month and greatly increases limits while layering on additional features, and custom Enterprise plans for serious production use cases.

But some users have told us they would appreciate being able to use just a bit more on the plan they're on, without having to immediately buy up to the next tier. Today, with support for user enabled Overages, that becomes a reality.

#How do Overages change our free Starter plan

In a word, they don't. You can still sign up for Turso and start using it for free, without a credit card.

The plan still comes with 1 billion rows read and 25 million rows written per month, with 9GB of total storage in the 3 locations of your choosing you can replicate to.

But by adding a credit card, and enabling overages on the web UI, or executing the following command via CLI…

…you will now be able to consume more than your initial allowance. You will be charged $1.00 per extra billion rows read, $1.00 per extra million rows written, and $0.75 per extra GB of storage used.

#How do overages change our Scaler Plan

Just like with the Starter plan, overages don't change the Scaler plan — let you exceed it. You are still entitled to 100 billion rows read, and 100 million rows written per month, with 24GB of total storage in the 6 locations of your choosing you can replicate to.

The Scaler plan costs $29 a month, so if you're on this plan you will have already added a credit card. All you need to do, then, is to enable overages on the CLI or Web UI.

You will be charged $0.80 per extra billion rows read, $0.80 per extra million rows written, and $0.50 per extra GB of storage used.

#Minimum requirements

CLI users need to update their CLI to version 0.85.1 or higher to use overages. For users on the Web interface, overages can be enabled by all users.

Users on the Starter plan need to add a credit card on file to be able to enable overages.

We have all seen the tweets: user makes a mistake, and wakes up with thousands of dollars in debt due to usage based billing. By providing a base allowance with support for overages, users who are concerned about their bill can disallow overages (the default), while users who are more concerned about being able to meet the scaling requirements of their applications can enable overages and make sure your application will scale.
