Everybody has bad days. The problem with bad days for devs, is that they can turn out to be very expensive, as your usage bill cranks up. Who hasn’t heard of the horror stories of a serverless bill going to the moon ?

Sometimes, the bad days are our fault. Like an unoptimized exponential query with joins inside joins that someone fires and reads the entire dataset many times.

Sometimes the bad days are someone else’s fault, like a DDoS attack or a bot swarm gone awry.

There are many situations in life where you don’t have to worry: If you were in Vegas, for example, you could get terminally drunk and end up getting married to a goat, and (assuming you also got a divorce in time) this would not change your life in the slightest. This may or may not be a real story that happened to... a friend of mine.

That’s because of the old adage: What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. It disappears.

So why is it that developers are always having to worry about surprise bills every month due to the occasional bad day? Why can’t we do the same when operating a serverless database?

Today we are bringing that Vegas energy to Turso and announcing the Vegas Blackout.

Once a month (before your invoice closes at month end), you can select a day – any day, and make it disappear. Read a trillion rows that day? Can’t be worse than waking up in a hotel room in Sam Bankman-Fried’s bed with half his polycule without remembering how you got there. Press the button, and that day is gone.

And we mean gone: it will disappear from your bill and you won’t be charged for usage that day at the end of the month. For your records, you will be able to see usage data (think of it as your consciousness, don't look if you really want to forget!). It’s like it never happened. Just like that bender in Vegas 12 years ago when you were “single.”

In fact, using Turso can be a lot like a bender in Vegas. They have unlimited booze, we have unlimited databases. They let your money travel fast (unidirectionally), we let your data travel fast (bidirectionally). I could go on, but anyway...

Vegas Blackout is available now for all Turso users. Go give it a try at https://turso.ai!
